Stamford Bridge beckons for Nou Camp youngster.
Chelsea have agreed terms with Barcelona midfielder Oriol Romeu and will confirm his signing in the next 48 hours.
Blues boss Andre-Villas-Boas last month revealed the two clubs had settled on £5million transfer fee that sees the 19-year-old move to west London.
The Spain U20 international was a target for Villas-Boas during the Portugueses’ time in charge at FC Porto.
With the long-term injury to Michael Essien rocking Chelsea’s pre-season plans, Romeu has now been given the chance to fill the gap.
Discussions over a contract have now taken place and Romeu looks set to become the Blues’ second summer signing following Thibaut Courtois’ move from Genk.
“Barcelona and Chelsea have already reached an agreement, and my agent was in London to listen to their offer,” Romeu told AS.
“Chelsea is a great option for me. If everything goes well, why not? Leaving Barca hurts, but you have to take your chances.”
Meanwhile Chelsea target Pato has revealed he has no intention of joining the Blues from AC Milan.
A £20 million deal, along with either Nicolas Anelka or Salomon Kalou, to land the forward was proposed but the Brzailian wants to stay in Italy.
“I have a contract with Milan until the summer of 2014 and I want to respect that,” he told Corriere dello Sport.
“I want to stay at least until then. We’ll have to wait and see what happens from there on.”
