Emirates club still negotiating over Mestalla star.
Valencia have rejected an Arsenal bid for winger Juan Mata, according to the player’s father and agent.
The 23-year-old has been on Gunners boss Arsene Wenger’s radar all summer and is widely seen as a replacement for Barcelona-bound Cesc Fabregas.
The Spain international, who is also attracting interest from Tottenham, has been holding talks through his representatives with the Emirates board and a deal is close to completion.
But the two clubs are still some way off agreeing a fee for the attacking midfielder.
The La Liga side have rejected an initial bid for the playmaker but Juan Mata Snr expects talks between the two sides to continue.
“Valencia simply rejected their offer, so my son remains a Valencia player, for now,” Mata Sr said. “But I don’t think it’s their last offer.
“There are several offers for Mata and I think that Arsenal will come forward again. The situation is still evolving.”
Meanwhile Barcelona have told Arsenal they will not up their offer for captain Fabregas from £30million.
The Gunners are demanding £40million from the Spanish and European champions and will refuse to lower the fee.
The stalemate could see Fabregas stay at the Emirates for another season at least, unless Barcelona up their offer.
