White Hart Lane will keep star.
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Luka Modric will reject a move to Chelsea to stay in north London, says his team-mate Rafael van der Vaart.
The Croatia international has been the subject of two failed bids from the Blues, but the west London club are preparing a new £30million offer.
The 25-year-old has told chairman Daniel Levy and manager Harry Redknapp he wants to move to the London rivals but the Spurs hierarchy are adamant he is not for sale.
Van der Vaart knows Modric is upset by Tottenham’s refusal to negotiate with Chelsea but expects him to give his all when the transfer window closes in three weeks’ time.
“I’m really happy that he’s going to stay because he’s an important player for us,” Van der Vaart told Sky Sports.
“Almost every day we ask him to stay and say, ‘Have a great season – then you can go!’ The chairman always said he’s going to stay, no questions about it.
“I understand he was a little bit disappointed, but in a few weeks he’s going to be happy again.”
