Emirates Stadium boss ready to spend big.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will look to complete deals to bring in four new players before the end of the month as the North London prepares to lose both captain Cesc Fabregas and attacker Samir Nasri.
Wenger is reportedly set to make an £8m bid for Birmingham City defender Scott Dann as he looks to strengthen his decidedly shaky defence. Liverpool are also said to be interested in the centre back but the opportunity to play at Champions League level may well see the St Andrews’ man opting for a move to the Emirates Stadium.
Both of Arsenal’s defensive captures from last summer, Laurent Koscielny and Sebastien Squillaci, have failed to impress and the Gunners conceded their highest Premier League total in over a decade, leading to the attempted signings of both Phil Jagielka and Gary Cahill.
24 year old Dann spent much of last season out injured which contributed to Birmingham City’s slide down the table, having lost his central defensive partner Roger Johnson to Wolves it is thought that the former Coventry City man will leave the Championship side this month.
Wenger will look to bring in Juan Mata from Valencia and the Mestalla side seem willing to sell the adaptable attacker but only if their asking price is met. The La Liga club are thought be looking to get around £22-25m for the Spanish international and Arsenal are the front runners in the pursuit of the 23 year old.
Shakhtar Donetsk’s playmaker Jadson is also on the Arsenal manager’s wish-list and the 27 year old Brazilian is thought to be Wenger’s choice as a potential replacement for Fabregas. The pint sized attacking midfielder has spent the last seven seasons with the Ukraine side and is thought to be very interested in making a move to the Premier League having captured five domestic titles with his current club.
Finally Wenger will try to prize Eden Hazard from Lille having pursued the Belgian international for the best part of two years. The Ligue 1 champions have seen a number of there top talents leave the Stade Metropole and the young midfielder seems ready to make his long awaited exit this summer.
Having seen Yohan Cabaye leave for Newcastle United and Gervinho also move to Arsenal, Hazard will feel that he has achieved as much as he can in France. However PSG are also thought to want the player and have the cash to offer a bumper deal to the 20 year old.
Arsene Wenger is keen to make major signings before the transfer window slams shut as he knows that this season could well be a make or break one for him personally after six seasons without silverware. The Frenchman has already signed the aforementioned Gervinho, Charlton Athletic’s Carl Jenkinson and Southampton teenager Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and has also seen Gael Clichy leave for Man City in what has been a fairly turbulent summer.
