Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish is considering a shock move for Celtic winger Paddy McCourt.

The Northern Ireland international hit the headlines last week with a stunning goal in his country’s 4-0 win over the Faroe Islands.

Liverpool had been monitoring the 27-year-old and their interest has been flushed out by the attention McCourt is now receiving from other clubs. He joined the Bhoys in 2008 but has struggled to hold down a starting spot in the SPL.

He has outrageous talent but his lack of consistency has held him back throughout his career.

Dalglish is aware of the damage he can do and is keen on adding his flair to the Reds squad.

McCourt would be an unlikely starter but is capable of coming off the bench and making an explosive impact.

We think that Paddy McCourt’s agent has been making some phone calls to fleet street hacks because this move makes little or no sense. The Northern Ireland international has made just 11 SPL starts in three seasons, the last being in January, and is 27 years of age so not sure how, and in what universe, Liverpool would show their interest in the former Rochdale man.

If the Derry born winger can not even get a place in Neil Lennon’s starting eleven how the hell would be even feature on Kenny Dalglish’s radar? Even though McCourt has shown ability in patches the fact that he can not impress his Bhoys boss enough to make the club’s first eleven on a regular basis would seem to indicate that he is nowhere near good enough to figure for a Premier League side looking to break back into the top four.

Dalglish may feel that in terms of his attacking options no new signings are needed. In 2011 the Scot has brought in Charlie Adam, Jordan Henderson, Stewart Downing, Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll and will now surely be looking to bring in defensive signings before the transfer window slams shut.

Injury concerns over Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger have exacerbated defensive frailties that were all too apparent last term. The Merseyside club are reportedly chasing a number of targets including Scott Dann, Gary Cahill and Ryan Shawcross.

We can safely say that one player who will not be on his way to Anfield this summer if Paddy McCourt.
