Emirates Stadium boss wants Etihad Stadium star.
Arsenal could be temtped to ask Manchester City to include Eastlands Adam Johnson in any deal that could see Samir Nasri going in the opposite direction.
Whilst Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger would like to hold onto Nasri he does understand that the 24 year old is looking to move on this summer but could see Englishman Johnson joining the Emirates as part of the deal on top of a cash payment. Although Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini is eager to keep hold of Johnson, his desire to land Nasri could overwhelm his desire to keep Johnson.
Although history tells us Wenger is not one for engaging in swap deals this may be one that he could consider. With Arsenal not wishing to bring Carlos Tevez on board for fear of his immediate home sickness, 24 year old Johnson would seem a decent bit of business, the 61 year old manager would also have a player who is looking for more first team appearances than he is currently receiving at Eastlands and would still have the Cesc Fabregas cash to invest in a more central player with Johnson classified as an out and out winger.
Arsene Wenger seems destined to lose Samir Nasri, either at the end of the season when his contract runs out or if Arsenal choose to sell the Frenchman now to avoid losing his services for nothing. The idea of using the situation to pick up a quality player is a wise one, not least as there is not a great deal of time left in the transfer window so perhaps an offer to bring Adam Johnson to North London would work.
However Roberto Mancini may not be keen on such a deal, the Italian is not known for offloading his players to rival clubs and the England winger had a good game last night against Swansea City and may be a more regular presence in the Man City starting eleven this season.
Arsenal would appear to be in more need of defensive reinforcements but clearly the likely loss of Samir Nasri will affect their attacking third also. The 24 year old was perhaps one of only three players who could be said to have had a good season last term, Robin Van Persie and Jack Wilshere being the other two, and Johnson could of course slot in to the same role at the Emirates Stadium.
Man City are said to be ready to offer up to £23m for Nasri, which is a good price given that the player would cost nothing in 12 months time.
