Stamford Bridge boss wants Anfield midfielder.
Chelsea are considering a move for Liverpool midfielder Raul Meireles as they contemplate an improved offer for Luka Modric.
Liverpool are willing to sell Meireles to help offset their £100m summer spending spree and anticipated selling the Portuguese abroad.
However, Andre Villas-Boas knows him well from their time at Porto and is interested to see if a deal could be done. Liverpool want close to £12m for the 28-year-old who was voted the PFA Fans Player of the Year.
Villas-Boas wants more creativity from his midfield and sees Meireles as an ideal foil for main target Tottenham’s Modric.

Chelsea have been pursuing Luka Modric for some time now but it seems that Tottenham won’t budge on the matter even though the Croatian international has made it clear he wants to move to West London, take note Arsenal, so now Andre Villas-Boas is reportedly keen on Raul Meireles, a player who left FC Porto soon after the Blues boss had started his career as boss of the Portuguese giants.
The talented midfielder had a great season last term and his form greatly improved the moment that Kenny Dalglish arrived on the scene but now the 28 year old has fallen down the first team pecking order following the arrival of the likes of Charlie Adam, Jordan Henderson and even though Steven Gerrard is out injured, Meireles started the first game of the season from the bench.
Clearly with this being the case, if Chelsea made an offer then presumably Meireles would be sorely tempted, especially as the Stamford Bridge club have Champions League football to offer, but would Dalglish elect to sell to a Premier League rival? Probably not.
The vast number of midfield options the Anfield side has means that a few players will be wondering if they have a future at the club. Alberto Aquilani may feel he has to leave the club in order to maintain his place in the Italian national team set-up, perhaps Raul Meireles feels the same?
