Moneybags La Liga side keen on Old Trafford striker.
La Liga side Malaga are reportedly readying a bid to sign Man United striker Dimitar Berbatov. The Andalusian side has been bankrolled by Qatari investment and have sought to bring in a number of high profile signings to help propel the Spanish side up the table and are now hoping to tempt the Old Trafford side into considering an offer for the Bulgarian international.
Malaga are said to be willing to offer up to €25m (£21.8m) for the striker, an offer that could be deemed as very generous given that the former Tottenham man has just one year left on his current contract. Boss Manuel Pellegrini is keen to boost his striking options and having brought in the likes of Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Jérémy Toulalan, Martin Demichelis and Santi Cazorla will hope to land last season’s joint top scorer in the Premier League.
Berbatov is aware that his first team chances may be limited this season and even though Javier Hernandez was unfit for Man United’s opener with West Brom he found himself warming the bench as up and coming striker Danny Welbeck was preferred by Sir Alex Ferguson.
Dimitar Berbatov is said to have been hugely upset at being left out of the club’s squad for the Champions League Final with Barcelona in May and seems unlikely to see regular first team action despite netting 21 goals in 24 Premier League starts last term.
Malaga are able to offer the Man United striker a lucrative contract and the 30 year old may be keen on a new challenge and regular first team football and would surely not be keen on being consigned to the bench when he appears to be at his peak.
Should Berbatov be keen on such a move then Ferguson is unlikely to stand in his way, not least as the money made from such a sale would help balance the books after the Man United boss’s £50+ outlay on new talent this summer.
