Villa Park boss wants Old Trafford back up man.
Aston Villa are making a £3.5million move for Manchester United midfielder Darron Gibson.
The Republic of Ireland international saw a move to Sunderland fall through last month despite initial discussions.
The 23-year-old is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford following the emergence of players such as Tom Cleverley and is keen to get his career back on track.

This may well be a deal that suits all parties. Alex McLeish clearly has a good relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson and their friendship goes all the way back to their days at Aberdeen and now the Scot will ask his former boss to allow Aston Villa to nab Darron Gibson, who is wasting away at Old Trafford.
The 23 year old has seen his chances of regular first team football take a battering due to the form shown by Tom Cleverley and a number of other players stand between the Irish international and first team football. A move to the Stadium of Light appeared to collapse due to wage demands but perhaps the Villa Park side are willing to meet the midfielder’s demands?
The Derry born United man has made 13 Premier League starts since his debut almost three years ago and has failed to even make it to the bench this term. Aston Villa have started the new season fairly well and McLeish must have money to invest having sold Ashley Young and Stewart Downing for a total fee in excess of £35m but have thus far brought in Shay Given and Charles N’Zogbia for less than half that total.
Given that Man United have spent over £50m snapping up the aforementioned Young, David de Gea and Phil Jones, Ferguson may want to help balance the books by offloading a player who clearly is not needed.
