Alex Song, Gervinho and Emmanuel Frimpong are suspended for Sunday’s trip to Premier League champions Manchester United.

Jack Wilshere, Nicklas Bendtner (both ankle), Sebastien Squillaci,  Kieran Gibbs (hamstring) and Abou Diaby (ankle) all out.

Thomas Vermaelen will have a fitness test tomorrow but is expected to be fit and Laurent Koscielny came through a similar check on his back problem this morning.

Aston Villa strikers Gabriel Agbonlahor (hamstring) and Emile Heskey (groin) have been declared fit for tomorrow’s home Premier League derby with Wolves.

Chris Herd is favourite to replace Luke Young at right-back. Young is having talks with QPR after the clubs agreed a fee but is currently sidelined with a knee injury.

Christopher Samba is available for the first time this season for tomorrow’s clash with Everton after recovering from a groin injury.

Ryan Nelsen will undergo a late fitness test on a knee problem, Grant Hanley is fit after receiving a blow to the head and Brett Emerton could play his final game for the club.

Bolton Wanderers

Bolton Marcos Alonso has become the latest Bolton defender to be hit by the club’s injury jinx ahead of the trip to Liverpool, with a broken metatarsal.

He joins Tyrone Mears (broken leg), Sam Ricketts (Achilles) and Gretar Steinsson on the sidelines.

Tuncay Sanli will hope to retain his starting role after scoring on his debut against Macclesfield in midweek, but Ricardo Gardner may miss out with a groin problem.

McCarthy will have to make a bench change, after striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake suffered medial ligament damage during the tie at Northampton. Sam Vokes is the likely candidate to step up.
