Does Silent Stan Kroenke need a new nickname?
He may now be called Quiet Stan.
Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke has finally said something in public about the club’s summer in the transfer market.
Speaking from an aeroplane in an interview with StLToday.com – predominantly about his ownership of NFL team St Louis Rams – Kroenke did reveal he backed Arsenal’s current approach to acquisitions.
“There’s a risk of going backwards if you overreact and start throwing money around in an attempt to solve your problems,” explained Kroenke.
“Unfortunately we saw that with the Rams several years ago.
“Signing a bunch of free agents wasn’t the answer. It set things back, and it took us a while to dig out of it.
“Our track record is out there for people to see. If we think there’s good value, we’ll spend.”
Perhaps Kroenke is correct, but equally there is often a case for a big signing to boost morale around the club alongside successful youth products.
Furthermore, given that this was an interview with St Louis press, why not give one to a London newspaper to detail his plans for Arsenal?
