Stamford Bridge boss target’s striker.
Chelsea are watching Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente.
Italian sources say Chelsea seeing Llorente as a replacement for Nicolas Anelka, who is a target for AC Milan ahead of the January market.
Llorente’s style of play is well suited to the Premier League and he potentially would be the ideal foil at Chelsea for fellow Spaniard Fernando Torres.
Having seen his defence ripped apart by Arsenal one would have thought that Andre Villas-Boas would be more keen to solidify his back line before bringing in yet another striker. Chelsea have a large number of talented strikers, indeed the West London club has netted 21 goals in ten games which is a pretty good return.
Villas Boas has the likes of Fernando Torres, Didier Drogba, Nicolas Anelka, Juan Mata, Daniel Sturridge, Romelu Lukaku and Salomon Kalou to turn to up front. If he is to make a move for Athletic Bilbao giant Fernando Llorente then one would have imagined that one or two of the players he has in his striking armoury would be on their way to the Stamford Bridge exit.
Llorente is a consistent striker who has grown in stature in recent seasons and is certainly ready to leave his Basque club in search of bigger and better things. The 6ft 5in forward has netted seven times this season and racked up 60 goals over the previous three campaigns and January may be the time the Pamplona born front man leaves the club he has represented since the age of 11.
He won’t come cheap though and the San Mamés side is reportedly looking for a fee in excess of £25m for the 26 year old Spanish international.
