Old Trafford boss forced to make new signing to help boost defensive options.
Serbian defender Neven Subotic is being closely monitored by English Champions Manchester United who are apparently ready to make an official £20 Million bid for the Borussia Dortmund centre half as soon as January.
It is common knowledge that Man Utd manager Sir Alex Ferguson wants to bring in another defender and Subotic , according to the reports, is the number one target for the Old Trafford supremo.
Subotic has been checked out by most of Europe’s top clubs and Dortmund have struggled to keep suitors at bay including Chelsea who reportedly had a £17 Million bid turned down.
Having seen his Old Trafford side struggle to cope defensively this term, a move to sign Neven Subotic makes a great deal of sense. Thus far this season Man United have conceded 12 goals in 10 games, and 4 in 3 Champions League matches and Sir Alex Ferguson has been forced to try out different centre back partnerships in order to stem the tide.
On the weekend Nemanja Vidic and Jonny Evans did well to collect a clean sheet at Everton as Rio Ferdinand was dropped following the 6-1 mauling by Man City. The club also has youngsters Phil Jones and Chris Smalling to turn to but Ferguson now appears ready to make a significant bid for highly rated Serbian Subotic, a bid said to be in the region of £22m.
Similarly Dortmund have not had the best of starts to the season and if the Bundesliga title holders crash out of the Champions League at the first hurdle then the 22 year old may look to leave the club. Jurgen Klopp’s side are five points off the pace in the domestic title race and have collected just one point from three group stage matches in Europe.
On top of this some sources have stated that the German side may have to sell a player to balance the books, especially if they fail to get the financial boost of continued progress to the knock-out stages of the Champions League.
Subotic has been compared to Vidic in the past, his international defensive partner, and Sir Alex Ferguson has been linked with a move for the one time United States Under 20 international.
