Old Trafford boss to make offer for young defender.
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is considering offering striker Dimitar Berbatov as a makeweight in a bid to persuade Borussia Dortmund into selling young centre back Neven Subotic.
The Serbian international has been strongly linked with interest from the Old Trafford side for the best part of a year and the 22 year old may well be tempted by a move to the Premier League champions, not least as his international central defensive partner Nemanja Vidic plies his trade there.
Ferguson is reportedly keen to boost his defensive options having seen his side struggle defensively this season. A series of uncharacteristically poor displays have seen Man United concede 12 goals this term and the Scot may well be considering the future of veteran Rio Ferdinand who is apparently a Tottenham target.
Subotic helped his side to a domestic title last term but has seen Bayern Munich set an impressive pace in the Bundesliga and his Dortmund side fail to make an impact in the Champions League and this has led to speculation that the former Mainz man would consider a move away from the club he joined back in 2008 and has been a virtual ever present in Jurgen Klopp’s side ever since.
30 year old Bulgarian Berbatov has failed to force his way into the Man United first team this season, despite finishing last season as the club’s top scorer and with his contract set to come to an end in the summer the former Tottenham man will be considering his options.
The striker had a successful spell in the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen, where he netted 91 goals, and a move back to Germany may well appeal to Berbatov who will be keen to secure regular first team football at this point in his career.
Dortmund boss Klopp may well feel that his side could do with an extra attacking option and the experience and quality that Berbatov could provide may well help lure Die Borussen into selling Subotic.
