Ligue 1 big spenders keen on Anfield man.
Reports coming out of France are linking Paris St Germain with a move for Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva.
Lucas has just signed an extension to his contract at Anfield (back in March) and so it is a little surprising that Paris St Germain are optimistic at their prospects of signing the Brazilian International, but with the money they have to spend they obviously feel that they can persuade the Liverpool board to cash in on the 24 year old.
Lucas has had a up and down time at Liverpool, he certainly took some time to win the Anfield faithful over and to a large extent he has, he does however have his doubters and the fans may not be that down hearted if Lucas is sold.
Because of the contract extension Paris St Germain may well have to pay a premium for the services of Lucas and a fee in the region of £20 Million is probably what would be required to get Liverpool to the negotiating table.
PSG are riding high at the top of Ligue 1 and the money pumped in by the club’s Qatari owners is clearly beginning to bear fruit but would Brazilian Lucas be interested in a move to Parc des Princes given his good form at Liverpool? The defensive midfielder came under a lot of criticism when he first broke through at Anfield but is now a virtual ever present and a player that Kenny Dalglish clearly has faith in.
Liverpool brought in a number of midfield options over the summer but Lucas is the only senior out and out defensive midfielder that Dalglish has to call upon and the Merseyside club is sure to turn down any offers for the 24 year old. However perhaps Lucas would consider a move if the club did not succeed in their pursuit of a place back in the top four club.
The fact that PSG’s director of football is Brazilian legend Leonardo may also be a factor and given that the Ligue 1 leaders have brought in players of the caliber of Javier Pastore they may feel they have what it takes to make an offer Lucas would find hard to turn down.
AC Milan are also said to be keen on Lucas and are reportedly ready to make Alberto Aquilani’s loan move to the club a permanent one in the summer.
