Anfield boss keen on Villa Park youngster.
Liverpool are rumoured to be interested in Aston Villa midfielder Barry Bannan as they look to strengthen their team in order to pursue European football.
Fellow Scot Kenny Dalglish is thought to hold the 21-year-old in high regard and sees him as the future of the national side, and a bid could be made in January however Dalglish will need reassurances over Bannan’s off field situation as he was recently arrested for drink driving.
It is thought that Bannan has until January to prove himself off the field in order to persuade Liverpool to step up their interest in him.
Whilst Liverpool have a number of midfield options in their large Anfield squad they arguably do not have that many battlers who can get stuck in and then push on into an attacking third. Lucas Leiva is one such player and the Brazilian has improved greatly over the past 18 months but the addition of a player Barry Bannan may well be a very wise move to make in January.
The 21 year old is of course in the news right now for all the wrong reasons but if the drink driving issue is dealt with by the time the transfer window re-opens then an offer for the Scottish international may well occur. Alex McLeish lost a number of his star turns over the summer with Ashley Young moving to Old Trafford, Brad Friedel to Tottenham and of course Stewart Downing making his big money move to Liverpool.
The Villa Park side started the season well, going seven games unbeaten, however they have fallen into eighth spot after a run of one win in four that has undone some of the good work from the opening weeks of the season.
McLeish will be loathed to lose Bannan but the young Scot may well be tempted a move to the Merseyside club who are reportedly ready to offer around £10m for the pint sized midfielder.
