Could Junior Hoilett be the man to bring Spurs to the next level?
Harry Redknapp, the Tottenham manager, is closing in on a move for the Blackburn forward Junior Hoilett in the January transfer window as he looks to strengthen his side in the chase for a Champions League slot.
The Ewood Park club have all but given up hope of retaining their most valuable asset, who has thus far refused to sign a new contract despite being offered the chance to become one of the best-paid players in Blackburn’s history.
Both Newcastle and Arsenal have been linked with Hoilett, but it is Redknapp who is believed to be the most enthusiastic suitor for the forward, capable of playing on both flanks and through the middle.
Where would Tottenham Hotspur play Junior Hoilett if he signed?
The 21 year-old has played much of his football for Blackburn Rovers this season on the left side, but it would be safe to say that Gareth Bale has that slot locked down for Spurs – and Steven Pienaar the next man likely to step into that role.
With Aaron Lennon occasionally unplayable on the right flank, perhaps Harry Redknapp is planning for Hoilett to be the long term solution to spearhead the Tottenham attack, with Emmanuel Adebayor only on loan until the summer.
Arsenal presently possess a wealth of options on both wings, and it would be reasonable to suggest that the Independent’s other suggestion of Newcastle would be more realistic suitors for Hoilett.
