1. Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa

Newcastle United have had a great deal of success raiding Ligue 1 in the transfer market recently, and they may look to France again as injuries have taken their toll on their central defence.

Fabricio Coloccini and Steven Taylor have both been ruled out for the long term, and as a result the Magpies have lost three of their last four games – albeit in a tough run of fixtures against Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea and er… Norwich.

Apologies Canaries fans, but I am sure you would admit you are not quite in such lofty company yet, as much as I have enjoyed watching you this season.

I digress. Back to Tyneside.

The biggest priority for Newcastle manager Alan Pardew then has to be to fill those gaps at the back, so that the club’s hugely encouraging start to the season does not go to waste.

Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa has been an enormous factor in Montpellier’s own impressive early league form, and the north France club currently sit atop Ligue 1.

Could the 22 year-old be of assistance to Newcastle United?
