The games this weekend start the busiest period of the season of course. Normally Premier League clubs have at least a week between each match, but there are four games between now and the end of the year and it all starts on Saturday.
There are six Premier League games on Saturday, the pick of which is probably Blackburn v West Brom. It may not be the most glamorous tie of the weekend, but there is plenty at stake at the bottom of the table. Steve Kean has not had much luck this term but his side were inspired in their last home as they put Swansea to the sword 4-2, and with Yakubu and Junior Hoilet they have genuine players of quality.
Albion lost to Wigan at home in their last outing and the 7/5 on the Rovers home win is screaming to be backed.
The same applies for the other 3pm kick-offs – they are all rather tough to assess in the build up. For example, Everton will be favourites at home to Norwich, but the Canaries have caused upsets already this year.
Then there is Fulham at home to Bolton with the former looking to put distance between themselves and the latter in the bottom-half of the table. Swansea then travel to Newcastle United, while Wolves aim to defeat in-form Stoke City in another tough to predict game.
Saturday’s action is then rounded off by Chelsea’s trip to Wigan. The away side have looked back to their best in the last week or so, so they will be confident of a comfortable win in this one. Chelsea look back to their best and should be full of confidence after their win over Man City and steamrolling of Valencia in the Champions League, while Wigan have shown signs of improvement recently, but there is simply too much class in Villas Boas side.
Back Chelski with a handicap -1 start at 11/10.
There is more action than usual on Sunday this weekend too though. First up, Queens Park Rangers host Champions Manchester United.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s men were back in the goals last weekend against Wolves, while QPR will be hoping they can re-create the performance that saw them defeat Chelsea earlier in the campaign, and at 6/1 Neil Warnock’s men look a cracking bet.
Lets not forget they put in a stirling performance against another of the big boys Man City at Loftus Road a month back and a 4-1 home win against lowly Wolves simply papers over the cracks at Old Trafford. Get on the home side.
After this, Aston Villa host Liverpool and Tottenham look to hand Martin O’Neill his first defeat as Sunderland manager when the two teams meet at White Hart Lane.
Finally, Manchester City take on Arsenal in a game that well and truly lives up to the Super Sunday name! It will be interesting to see how City react after their first defeat of the season.
Robbie Van Persie is going for the record of scoring the most goals in a calendar year, and he is sure to attract plenty of interest at 6/1 to find the net first. I can’t see City losing two on the bounce and the 8/11 is just about big enough for me to lump on.
It definitely is a cracker of a weekend – don’t forget to pick up your free £100 with Paddy Power and bet for free!
