8. FIFA 12

Great gameplay, quality graphics and loads of leagues to partake in, your journey to work will never seem the same again, you may also end up forgetting to get off at your stop but that’s your own fault dummy and EA Sports are not to blame (read the small print).

6. Championship Manager 1980s Legends

Genius idea delivered superbly. The classic Championship manager game we all love and are clearly addicted to, but thrown back in a time machine to the 1980s. All that’s missing is the smell of Bovril wafting through the air (Bovril can still be purchased in most leading supermarkets and no app has yet been created to simulate that oaky smell).

5. Sky Sports Score Centre

It’s Kammy, Stelling, Le Tissier and the boys but in the palm of your hand, not literally as that would be frighteningly disgusting. Great app with amazing depth across many levels and leagues with all the latest live scores, videos and news.

4. Football Manager 2012 Handheld

Meetings at work will never be the same again. As Giles (replace with generic name) delivers speech on cost-cutting (replace with generic subject matter) you can nod sagely whilst considering the merits of going all out and pushing your team into attacking over-drive for the closing minutes of a key encounter. All being well, your team will have scored that all important late winner. Worst case scenario your team loses, Giles then gets hit with plastic cup laden with water. So what. He deserves it!

3. Live Score

The classic way to keep up to speed with the latest scores. Does exactly what it says on the tin, as do most tins unless you’re at a Harvest Festival and they’ve taken all the labels off and you end up opening a tin of dog food and not the tasty peaches in syrup you had been hoping for. Anyway, we digress….

2. ESPN Goals

More video content than you can shake a stick at, and we should know because we’ve shaken a lot of sticks (we don’t know where we are going with this either). All the Premier League goals and action super fast delivered straight to your phone. Simple, but rewarding. Just like shaking a stick (there you go, we knew we’d get there in the end).

1. Fanatix

Imagine a place where you could seamlessly connect with your fellow football fans, be they your friends or supporters of your beloved team. A place where you could keep up to date with the latest live scores, chat about the key incidents, share photos and videos in private groups. A place so vast it covers all levels of the game from the Bernabeu to Brisbane Road. A place where cutting onions needn’t make your eyes water.

There’s no longer a need to imagine this because it already exists and not just in the mind of an evil professor. All your footballing needs are catered for with this ground breaking app.

Please note: Onion observation is merely added for comedic effect.
