Emirates Stadium boss looks to sign in form striker.
Arsene Wenger is reportedly keen on signing Schalke striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and is said to be considering making a £15m bid for the Dutch international during the January transfer window.
The Arsenal boss is keen to add to his attacking options and though he is set to land Thierry Henry on a two month loan deal the Gunners manager is looking for a longer term solution to the lack of effective firepower at the club. Currently the North London side relies far too heavily on Robin Van Persie and the likes of Gervinho and Marouane Chamakh have failed to provide goal-scoring support.
Huntelaar has been in fine form for club and country this year and has formed a healthy partnership with Raul at Schalke and is said to be a target for many European outfits. The 28 year old has amassed an incredible 26 goals in 26 games for his Bundesliga side and also finished the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign as top scorer after he netted 12 to help Holland to the finals.
The former Ajax man experienced a slump at both Real Madrid and AC Milan and had an average first season at the Veltins-Arena but has helped Huub Stevens’ side to become genuine title chasers after finishing last term in 14th spot.
Arsene Wenger was strongly linked with a move for Huntelaar when he was at Ajax but the Emirates Stadium boss failed to beat Real Madrid to his signature. Schalke spent £10m to bring the striker to Gelsenkirchen in August 2010 and the German side will be loathed to lose their prized attacking possession but may fear that the in form goal machine may be tempted by a move to the Premier League.
