Ibrox set for hero return?
Former Rangers star Nacho Novo could be line in for a surprise return to the Ibrox club after boss Ally McCoist refused to rule out a move for the striker.
Novo – who now plays for Sporting Gijon – has been training with the Scottish champions over the festive period while back in Scotland and has caught the eye of McCoist.
And with Rangers top scorer Nikica Jelavic having missed Monday’s 3-0 win over Motherwell due to injury and Kyle Lafferty picking up a hamstring problem which could rule him out for up to six weeks, it seems McCoist – who also has Steven Naismith on his long-term injury list – could make a move for the Spaniard.
“Nacho was back home for Christmas and New Year and phoned us up and asked to come in and do a bit of training,” said McCoist. “We obviously welcomed him with open arms and the wee man looked great.”

Ally McCoist has seen his Rangers side hit a patch of average form that has coincided with Celtic’s run of victories leading many to assume that the Ibrox side may bring in reinforcements this month, but is a move for veteran striker Nacho Novo the answer?
32 year old Novo left for Sporting Gijon just under 18 months ago and after an average first season at the La Liga side has picked up form this term, netting three times in six appearances. The Spaniard proved a hit at Rangers during his six year spell in Glasgow, scoring 73 goals in 255 appearances, many of those finishes proving crucial.
However it wouldn’t appear that any Rangers shortcomings arise from their attack, after all McCoist’s side have managed a fairly healthy 40 goals in 22 SPL games. Clearly any need to bring in a striker would be if Croatian Nikica Jelavic was sold but in that instance Novo would hardly be deemed a satisfactory replacement for the club’s top scorer.
