Old Trafford side take interest in Chelsea target.
Manchester United are ready to beat Chelsea for want-away Bolton Wanderers defender Gary Cahill.
The England international was set to move to Stamford Bridge but the 26-year-old’s representatives have failed to agree personal terms at a first meeting.
Chelsea are offering £70,000 a week, while Cahill is seeking £100,000 a week.
Now United could make a move to bolster their injury-hit defence.
As well as reports stating that Gary Cahill’s wage demands are far higher than Chelsea are willing to go there is also speculation growing that the Bolton man is not too keen on moving all the way to London. Therefore a move to nearby Manchester United would presumably be a welcome bit of news for the England international.
Sir Alex Ferguson will not have been pleased with Man United’s defensive display in their last two games, during which they conceded three apiece to Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United. Indeed the Premier League champions’ back-line has looked shaky all season.
Rio Ferdinand has not looked assured and has suffered with injuries and Nemanja Vidic is out for the rest of the season. Phil Jones has done well at the back but has looked far more effective in a midfield role. The addition of another centre back option, to go with other alternatives including Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling, would greatly help the Old Trafford side in their pursuit to retain their domestic title.
