Arsene Wenger hopes to bring Nou Camp man to the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal are reportedly weighing up a move for Barcelona’s Eric Abidal who has just six months left to run on his current contract.
The French international has been in talks about an extension talks for some time but as yet no deal has been secured.
Given that Arsenal have quite a few full back options, when all are fully fit, the need to bring in reinforcements is definitely a short term one, be that a loan deal of a short term contract for an ageing experienced defender, therefore a move for Eric Abidal is a wise one.
The North London club have suffered a hideous amount of injury concerns in the full back area this term leaving Wenger having to use makeshift options such as Johan Djourou and Francis Coquelin in recent weeks. Summer signings Carl Jenkinson and Andre Santos are both out as are Bacary Sagna and Kieran Gibbs, leaving the Gunners woefully stretched.
Pep Guardiola is trying hard to keep hold of Abidal, who has been a virtual ever present this term manfully filling in at the centre of defence for much of the time, but may not be willing to meet the 32 year old’s demands.
