The January transfer window, since its inception in the 2002-03 season, has inspired hundreds of thousands of words of transfer speculation concerning thousands of players across the globe.
The transfer window for 2012 has been open for just over a week and while no significant business has been conducted yet, prepare to see hundreds of millions of pounds spent on players as the deadline approaches.
The Barcelona defender sees his contract coming to an end this season and there will be no shortage of clubs looking to secure the 32-year-old defender’s services now ahead of a free transfer move in the summer. The 60-capped player, who recovered from a liver tumour last year, has been courted by both Liverpool and Manchester City, although they will face competition from AC Milan for Abidal’s signature.
After making less than 10 senior appearances for Scottish Premier League side Dundee United, Allan could be heading to West Bromwich Albion. Contract negotiations between Allan and his club broke down after he demanded a weekly wage of around £1,600 a week which would have made him the club’s third-highest earner. The Scotland under-21 has also been linked to Manchester United, Newcastle United, Celtic and Rangers but it is Roy Hodgson who was expressed firm interest.
