How long does Brad Friedel have left at White Hart Lane?
Tottenham Hotspur made perhaps one of the signings of the season this summer in Brad Friedel, despite the American goalkeeper entering his fifth decade last year.
Friedel has made some key saves and kept eight clean sheets so far this season, and is one of the main reasons Spurs are in the lofty position of challenging for the Premier League title.
However, even though Friedel has looked the same age his whole life, this does not mean he will be able to play forever – much to Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp’s chagrin.
Friedel was signed on a two year deal, but it is believed that Spurs are already thinking about a future beyond him and scouting out potential options.
Like Arsenal with Wojciech Szczesny, and Manchester United with David de Gea, Tottenham are reportedly considering placing their faith in a young goalkeeper in the hope of securing the position for the next decade or more.
That man is Borussia Monchengladbach custodian Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who is currently just 19 years of age – less than half that of Friedel.
Ter Stegen has been likened to a young Oliver Kahn, and is tipped to be world class before too long.
Spurs are thought to be looking at ter Stegen for a summer transfer.
