Sky Sports also understands that Liverpool have joined the clutch of clubs monitoring Jemain Defoe’s situation.

And Defoe’s switch to agent Struan Marshall has only enhanced the speculation that he could be an Anfield target – given his close links to the Merseyside giants.

Marshall, who is Steven Gerrard’s agent, also represents the likes of Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson – who both completed moves to Liverpool last summer.

Newcastle, Sunderland and Queens Park Rangers have also been linked with the 29-year-old.

And Redknapp acknowledges that a a change of agent could see Defoe’s head turned, but he has no plans on letting him leave.

Jermain Defoe is a consistent Premier League marksman but understandably the 29 year old is not too pleased as spending much of the last two seasons on the White Hart Lane bench and with the Euro 2012 finals on the horizon the England international may be keen on considering a move away from the North London club in pursuit of regular first team starts.

Liverpool could well do with further attacking options given that Luis Suarez is out with a lengthy ban and Andy Carroll is struggling to find form since his move to Anfield from Newcastle United a year ago. Whilst Defoe may not fit the Merseyside side’s push for youth the former West Ham and Portsmouth man will add a proven goalscorer to their ranks and indeed would probably not cost the earth.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp seems to favour playing one up front at present and that spot has chiefly been reserved for on loan striker Emmanuel Adebayor leaving Defoe waiting for the chance to prove himself and thus far has still managed to net 11 goals despite only starting 14 matches. Russian Roman Pavlyuchenko has seen even less first team time and is said to be likely to leave this month.

Though Kenny Dalglish does have the likes of Dirk Kuyt and Craig Bellamy as possible back-up options Liverpool have still only managed to net 24 goals in 20 Premier League matches so a move for a striking addition this month would make a great deal of sense.
