Teenager set for Emirates Stadium move.
Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign Borussia Dortmund starlet Thomas Eisfeld, according to German newspaper Revier Sport.
The 19 year-old playmaker has been in fine form for the Bundesliga team’s youth sides, and has scored six goals in 12 games for the U19s this season.
It is doubtful that he is likely to be ready to play a part in Arsenal’s current campaign, and this season will more likely be a process of acclimatisation to English football.
Next season he could be given more prolonged exposures to the Premier League.
Eisfeld will not have been an expensive purchase for the notoriously prudent Arsene Wenger.
The young German’s contract expires in June, and it is likely that Arsenal will only have to pay a compensation fee for his development.
Revier Sport claim that Eisfeld is set to undergo a medical shortly, and is already with his representative Reza Fazeli in London.
Many Arsenal fans reading this will have hoped that the signing would be the real prodigy of the Borussia Dortmund team, Mario Gotze, but he will stay at the reigning Bundesliga champions until at least the summer.
After that, some of the biggest teams in Europe will likely fight out for the privilege of his signature, and it will be interesting to see if Arsenal enter a prospective bidding war.
One would suspect that having secured the cut price alternative in Eisfeld, Arsene Wenger will not.
