Arsene Wenger claimed today that it will be a “miracle” if Arsenal buy a player in the final 48 hours of the window.

His team were jeered by a section of the home support after going 2-0 down to Aston Villa at half-time but Wenger reiterated his confidence in his squad after a brilliant second-half comeback sealed a 3-2 win and a place in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Asked if he will bring reinforcements before Tuesday’s 11pm deadline, Wenger said: “I cannot say ‘nothing’ but it will be a little bit of a miracle now. The biggest thing for us is to get our players back. When you look at the bench today, we had top quality.”

In a separate interview shortly afterwards, Wenger said “certainly not” to the possibility of any new acquisitions before teasing supporters by saying “but you never know”.

So either Arsene Wenger is being deliberately cagey about a potential last minute signing or he is keeping his cards close to his chest ahead of the transfer window slamming shut in less than 36 hours. A number of players have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium this month and here are selection of the most recent rumours that are currently circulating.

Fulham attacker Clint Dempsey has alerted Arsenal and a host of Premier League clubs after the 28-year-old admitted his ambition is to play in the Champions League.

Clint Dempsey could add another attacking option to Arsene Wenger’s Gunners squad that could well do with such a boost as they look to clinch that all important top four finish. With Gervinho and Marouane Chamakh failing to regularly contribute to the goal-scoring load, too much is expected of captain Robin Van Persie.

The 28 year old Fulham man has scored 15 goals in all competitions this season and could well be tempted by a move to the Emirates Stadium and his ability to play across the midfield is an adaptable presence that Wenger may well be keen on pursuing.
