CSKA Moscow star hints at Old Trafford move.
CSKA Moscow star Keisuke Honda has stated his disappointment at his failure to win a transfer elsewhere in January, with a deal to go to SS Lazio falling through at the last minute.
Honda has been linked with a number of Europe’s biggest clubs ever since his stellar performances at the 2010 FIFA World Cup for Japan, with Liverpool particularly strongly rumoured to be at the front of the queue for his services.
However, Liverpool may be usurped by their arch rivals Manchester United in the race to sign Honda, with the player himself stating that Lazio, Paris Saint-Germain and the Red Devils were the teams most interested in taking him on.
“I waited for a better club during the last transfer window and I was hoping for a transfer to Lazio,” Honda is quoted as telling Japanese newspaper Nikkan Sports.
“Now, my focus is back on CSKA, but at the end of the year my contract is set to expire and I feel honoured that my name is associated with clubs like Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.”
Honda’s contract situation is one of the key reasons he will be one of the most sought after players of 2012.
It is rare that a player with such great technique comes on the market for a low cost, and there will be plenty of interested clubs in the upcoming months.
