On hearing the news that the Spaniard is in talks with the Merseyside club every bookmaker in town slashed their odds on the Wigan Athletic manager succeeding Kenny Dalglish and made the 38 year old the favourite to become the next permanent Liverpool manager.

Earlier today Wigan chairman Dave Whelan had issued Martinez with a deadline by which he needed to either commit to the Latics or make it clear he wanted to consider other offers, according to the BBC.

The news that Martinez is in Miami in talks with Liverpool’s owners would appear to suggest that the former Swansea City manager is very much interested in a possible move to Anfield, a move that appears to have become a whole lot more likely to come to fruition.
