Euro 2012: Injury rules England keeper John Ruddy out of Euro 2012

England goalkeeper John Ruddy has been ruled out of Euro 2012 after breaking his finger in training.
The Norwich player, 25, was making his first appearance in the national squad after being named in the 23 for Poland and Ukraine by new manager Roy Hodgson.

Birmingham City’s Jack Butland has been called into the squad as replacement.

The 19-year-old, who was previously on the standby list, will join up with the squad next week ahead of the final warm-up game with Belgium on 2 June.

This must be devastating news for the Norwich City keeper who’s excellent displays last term earned him an unexpected call up to the national team for the Euro 2012 finals and for that dream to have been snuffed out prior to the boarding of the plane to Ukraine/Poland must be awful.

The injury means that Birmingham City’s Jack Butland moves into Roy Hodgson’s squad, despite the fact that the 19 year old is yet to play a professional match for the St Andrews’ side and who’s only experience has come in a loan spell at League Two Cheltenham.
