Chelsea are reportedly closing on a £62m deal to sign Lille starlet Eden Hazard and FC Porto forward Hulk according to a report in the London Evening Standard.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich will have been ecstatic about finally sealing a Champions League triumph but will be all too aware that his Blues side have slipped some way back in the Premier League title race having finished some 25 points off the pace set by Man City & Man United, so it’s not all that surprising that the Russian billionaire would be looking to splash the cash this summer.

Abramovich may well also be keen on reversing the ageing nature of his Chelsea squad as he looks to flex his financial muscles once again.

FC Porto forward Hulk may well be seen as a direct replacement for Didier Drogba, who has already stated his intention to leave the club this summer as his contract comes to an end. The Brazilian striker has been in excellent form for his Portuguese side in recent seasons, notching up 57 goals in the past two title winning seasons. The 25 year old continued his fine run of form with his first goals for his national side coming in the weekend win over Denmark.

Eden Hazard is also a man in-form, indeed the Lille man produced an even more inspired campaign than in 2010/11 when he helped his side to their first Ligue 1 title in over 50 years.

The Belgian international has today tweeted that he has made his ‘mind up’ about which side he will sign for this summer, having already bid farewell to the Stade Metropole side. The playmaker could add more creativity to Chelsea’s midfield but won’t come cheap and his portion of the £62m total spend outlined by this source would presumably be more sizable than the fee spent on Hulk.
