Claudio Ranieri is set to reject West Brom and take over at AS Monaco, according to ESPN Soccernet.

The Italian, who has been a free agent since leaving Inter Milan in March, was interviewed by West Brom Chairman Jeremy Peace last week.

But the former-Chelsea boss is on the verge of joining Monaco, the side he lost to in the Champions League semi-final when at Stamford Bridge in 2004.

Monaco remain in the second tier of French football, after recovering from a disastrous start to finish 8th in Ligue 2 last season. The Italian has not won a major trophy since the Copa del Rey with Valencia in 1999 but has an impressive record of achieving promotion from the second tier, having managed the feat three times in Italy.
