Euro 2012: England’s Frank Lampard suffers training injury

England’s Frank Lampard will undergo a thigh scan on Thursday after pulling up in training ahead of Saturday’s pre-Euro 2012 friendly against Belgium.

The 33-year-old Chelsea midfielder will be assessed by England’s medical team.

Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson, 21, has been put on standby as cover while Lampard is monitored.

This is not good news for England’s hopes. Frank Lampard was undoubtedly set to be a crucial member of Roy Hodgson’s Euro 2012 plans and for the Chelsea man to possibly withdraw from the squad is one thing and the fact that Jordan Henderson, who has had a woeful debut campaign at Liverpool, would replace the Blues veteran merely compounds the issue and goes some way to display the lack of strength in depth Hodgson has to work with.
