Joey Barton attacked in street in Liverpool

Footballer Joey Barton has been punched in the face outside a nightclub in Liverpool.

Merseyside Police said officers were called to Eberle Street at about 05:30 BST following reports of a disturbance outside the Garlands club.

They confirmed that a 29-year-old man who had been injured voluntarily left the scene.

Two 21 year-olds are being held on suspicion of a public order offence and are currently in police custody.

Whatever you may think of Joey Barton, and most simply detest the QPR midfielder, it clearly isn’t on to attack anyone for seemingly no apparent reason and one can only hope that those responsible are dealt with accordingly.

The 29 year old misfit has of course been involved in a catalogue of unsavoury incidents, ranging from serving time for assault, knocking a team-mate unconscious and stubbing a cigar in a youth team players face, that however doesn’t excuse any foolish lout trying to make a name for himself by attacking the former Man City and Newcastle United man.

Below is an image following the alleged attack.
