Chelsea face a major battle to sign Brazilian starlet Lucas Moura after Inter Milan stepped up the race to sign him.

Reports in Italian newspaper Corrierre dello Sport suggest Inter want the player at all costs and will next week send two club representatives to Sao Paulo to attempt to seal a deal.

Real Madrid are also interested but Inter are willing to pay whatever it takes to get their man.The news will be a big blow to Chelsea, who reportedly had a £32m bid for 19-year-old Moura turned down last month.

Having spent £32m on Eden Hazard and already brought in Marko Marin from Werder Bremen, it seems that Roman Abramovich is more than happy to conduct transfer activity regardless of the fact he does not have a permanent manager in place at Stamford Bridge.

However his efforts to land another young talent, Brazilian teenager Lucas Moura, will be severely tested as it appears that Serie A giants Inter Milan are also keen on the Sao Paulo man. Chelsea may however have the upper hand, not just because they secured their maiden Champions League triumph, but also because the San Siro side are certainly experiencing some tough times of late.

Having been through a succession of managers over the past two seasons the Nerazzurri and last term they finished sixth, their lowest placing in Serie A in over a decade. That finish also rules Andrea Stramaccioni’s side out of the Champions League for the forthcoming season and that too could well count against the Italian giants in their pursuit of Lucas Moura.

Roman Abramovich may be reticent to up his previous £32m bid by too much as however talented the Brazilian international is, there is a chance that Sao Paulo may well price him out of the market.
