Fergie lines up £25m Modric but must wait until Croatia’s Euro campaign is over
Manchester United are set to beat Chelsea to Spurs playmaker Luka Modric, once the Croatia international returns from Euro 2012.
Sir Alex Ferguson hopes to land his man for £25million, with an additional £5m based on appearances and future success with United, according to the Sun.
Modric is in line for a bumper four-year contract worth £125,000-a-week, and £26m in all.

This source appears to suggest a deal is practically in place for Tottenham schemer Luka Modric to move to Old Trafford but can this really be the case? Firstly one has to wonder if an offer of £25m is enough in the current transfer market to secure a player of the Croatian’s quality and secondly one has to wonder if Sir Alex Ferguson can beat Chelsea to the signing of the 26 year old.
Harry Redknapp will be loathed to lose Modric, a player who has become pivotal to the North London club over the past few seasons. The former Dinamo Zagreb man is currently at the Euro 2012 finals but will still surely be in touch with his agent about potential moves and could well be ready to quit Tottenham after they failed to secure Champions League football.
Ferguson appears set to re-shape his midfield having already brought in Shinji Kagawa to add more forward momentum and a very crucial goal-scoring angle. Man United fans may well also see Tom Cleverley being given a more prominent role and Michael Carrick still seems crucial to the Scot’s intentions.
However the likes of Anderson, Ji-Sung Park and veteran Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs may find their playing time stripped back next term. It also appears that Darren Fletcher may well be used sparingly, if at all, given his ill-health.
