So the word on the web is that Polish coach Franciszek Smuda believes that Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski is heading to Man United. Now this could be an outrageous attempt to boost the striker’s ego ahead of their opening Euro 2012 match with Greece or more likely that he is in the know.

Man United could well do with alternative attacking options. Michael Owen has left the club and Dimitar Berbatov may well similarly be on his way. Javier Hernandez has had a poor second season leaving Wayne Rooney as the one really effective striking option, though Danny Welbeck is indeed fast improving.

The 23 year old Pole notched up an impressive 30 goals in 46 appearances in all competitions last term, helping Jurgen Klopp’s side to a league and cup double. Sir Alex Ferguson attended the DFB Pokal final, where Lewandowski netted a hat-trick in his side’s 5-2 mauling of Bayern Munich.
