Arsenal ‘face competition from Barcelona for Yann M’Vila transfer’
Arsenal’s hopes of landing Yann M’Vila during the summer transfer window have been hit by the news Barcelona are also keen on him.
The France midfielder has made it clear he will leave Rennes before the start of next season and a number of Europe’s biggest clubs are known to be monitoring his situation.
Arsenal have been tracking Yann M’Vila for some months now and had at one point looked likely to seal a deal to sign the Rennes midfielder only for the trail to go cold over reported wage and price tag demands by the player and his club respectively.
M’Vila suffered an ankle injury on the eve of the Euro 2012 finals but shouldn’t be out for too long a period and may well still make an impact in Poland and Ukraine where no doubt many prospective suitors are keen to see how he performs on the big stage.
Wenger looks keen to add more steel to his midfield which may have been a decision he was led to following Alex Song’s maturing into a more complete midfielder, able to act as an attacking influence as well as putting in his workload as an ‘enforcer’.
Barcelona’s interest may tempt M’Vila to consider a move to La Liga. Even though the Catalan side have lost both their domestic and Champions League crowns, as well as Pep Guardiola, it’s clear that the club is still able to lure just about any player they desire.
The Gunners have already secured the signing of Lukas Podolski this summer but may well be looking to bring in a few more big names to help beef up their squad for the coming season as well as to appease those players at the club that demand Wenger shows ambition in the transfer market.
