Mourinho still hopes to land a Premier League midfielder this summer, but his target is Everton’s Fellaini, reports Marca.
The former Chelsea boss is impressed by the Belgium international’s tough-tackling approach and ability in the air, and apparently sees him as a strong candidate for a central midfield role at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Chelsea are also keen on the 24-year-old and are rumoured to be planning a £20million bid.

From a Real perspective, it looks a strange one. Boss Jose Mourinho already boasts Sami Khedira, Xabi Alonso, Lassana Diarra and Estenban Granero for the box-to-box midfield role, not to mention barely-used Turks Hamit Altintop and Nuri Sahin.
It makes sense for big-spending Chelsea, on the other hand, to add some steel to their new-look midfield. John Obi Mikel has consistently flattered to deceive, while Frank Lampard’s influence will surely wane and Michael Essien has not quite looked the same after returning from injury.
If it came down to a bidding war, Chelsea may ultimately prove in the most need of the Belgian’s services, as owner Roman Ambramovich ploughs money into the club ahead of an assault on the Premier League title next season.
The news will be bitter sweet for Evertonians. If one of their best players is to leave, it’s encouraging to see two of the world’s richest clubs battling for his signature. Everton chairman Bill Kenwright is a tough negotiator and is sure to get a fantastic deal if Real or Chelsea or both come calling.
