Bachelona want Bendtner: Laudrup targets striker for Swans

Misfit Arsenal striker is in the frame as Rodgers’ successor signs on and immediately starts looking to improve his options up front

Michael Laudrup is keen on an ambitious bid to lure fellow Dane Nicklas Bendtner to Swansea.

Laudrup has signed a two-year deal to manage the Welsh side, and has made a new striker a priority as he looks to build on the great work done by predecessor Brendan Rodgers at a club dubbed ‘Bachelona’ because of their Barca-like passing style.

Bendtner is surplus to requirements at Arsenal as Arsene Wenger has already drafted in Cologne and Germany striker Lukas Podolski for next season and is on the verge of also signing Montpellier and France hitman Olivier Giroud.

Arsene Wenger is seemingly more than willing to offload Nicklas Bendtner, for the right price, given that the Danish international has further fallen down the Gunners pecking order since his season long loan move to Sunderland. A move to the Liberty Stadium would also clearly have more of a punch given that the Welsh club are now managed by a national legend that the giant forward may well look up to.

Indeed chairman Huw Jenkins has done well to replace one highly rated boss, Brendan Rodgers, with another who also has the same ethos of playing attractive football.

Bendtner netted eight goals for Sunderland last term and was a virtual ever present during his year at the Stadium of Light but Martin O’Neill is yet to look to make the temporary move a permanent one which could let in Laudrup if he is ready to stump up enough money to land the 24 year old. His solid form at the Euro 2012 finals may also bring out one or two other prospective suitors.

Wenger appears likely to bring in Olivier Giroud to go with summer signing Lukas Podolski and when you factor in Robin Van Persie, Marouane Chamakh and Gervinho, it would appear likely that Bendtner has played his last game for the North London club.
