There has been a fair amount of speculation concerning failed contract talks between Nani and Man United and perhaps Sir Alex Ferguson’s reticence to relent and accept the Portuguese international’s demands has more to do with his interest in potential replacements than his unwillingness to give the 25 year old the deal he wishes.

Colombian international James Rodriguez has made great strides since his move to FC Porto from Banfield two seasons ago. In his first season he struggled to make an impact as Andre Villas-Boas’s side clinched a treble but last term the youngster broke through.

The 20 year old notched up 13 goals and provided many assists to help FC Porto to retain their title under stiff competition from Benfica. The starlet has made it clear he would be open to an Old Trafford switch and that may well come to fruition if Nani’s contract talks continue to stall.

Given that Ferguson has the likes of Ashley Young and Luis Antonio Valencia as solid wide options, as well as the option to play Danny Welbeck on the flank, perhaps the Scot is willing to offload Nani this summer.
