Dutch midfielder Wesley Sniejder has claimed that the Netherlands shocking performance at Euro 2012 was not down to coach Bert van Marwijk but the result of a mole within the camp, who leaked tactics to the press, reports the Guardian.

Sneijder, who is expected to be named his country’s new captain with 35-year-old Mark van Bommel set to retire, stood by his beleaguered coach, despite the Netherlands losing all three group games and scoring just twice.

“We can’t blame the coach for this, he did a great job for us in the last four years,” the Internazionale player said.

“But there are some issues in the squad that have to be solved first, like the player who is leaking to the press about our tactical plans before matches.”

60-year-old van Marwijk has four year left on his contract as Netherlands boss but the Dutch national press have been calling for a change following their Euro 2012 exit.
