Stephane Sessegnon’s future on Wearside has been brought into question after a bookmaker yesterday suspended any more bets on the striker joining Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
Sunderland yesterday played down the suggestion that there is any significance in the development and it wouldn’t be the first time that bookies have suspended betting on something happening, only for that prediction not to come off.
But the fact that there has been a flood of bets on Sessegnon moving to White Hart Lane suggests that Spurs are keenly interested in Sunderland’s Player of the Season.

Spurs may be without a manager but it seems transfer activity at White Hart Lane hasn’t been suspended entirely. Indeed, the north London club look set to complete the transfer of Belgian international Jan Vertonghen this week, in spite of Harry Redknapp’s sacking and, according to the above, Benin international Sessegnon could follow the Ajax man through the door.
Redknapp was undoubtedly an admirer of Sessegnon, who has impressed in the Premier League since joining the Black Cats in January 2011, and his parting gift to Spurs may yet be the 27-year-old’s arrival.
Tottenham look set to appoint Andre Villas-Boas as boss within the week and rumours are abound that chairman Daniel Levy will also reinstate a director of football at the club. While we think Sessegnon’s arrival is unlikely before a new boss is in place, could it be that the new director of football is already working behind the scenes to ensure Spurs land key transfer targets, before the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City enter the bidding?
