Jose Mourinho wants White Hart Lane schemer.
Real Madrid ready £30m bid for Modric as Mourinho catches Man United napping in battle for star
Real Madrid are prepared to pay Tottenham £30million for Luka Modric after coach Jose Mourinho has told the club to press ahead with an offer.
The Madrid giants are confident of finalising a deal ahead of rivals Manchester United who have been closely linked with the 26-year-old playmaker.
The Croatia midfielder’s move to the Bernabeu would give Tottenham’s new manager funds to move in the transfer market.

The longer Tottenham are without a manager the longer their players are in danger of being targeted by interested parties. Unlike the situation Chelsea found themselves in when Roman Abramovich was yet to announce Roberto Di Matteo as permanent successor to Andre Villas-Boas, Daniel Levy’s side are experiencing the hardship of failing to secure a Champions League spot and the uncertainty resulting from the axing of a manager who had in fact done a stellar job at the helm.
The White Hart Lane chairman must try his hardest to fend off interest in his star performers and if the issue is generating funds for a new manager to spend then there are probably half a dozen unneeded squad players, perhaps more, to help boost the North London club’s finances. Players such as David Bentley, Heurelho Gomes, Vedran Corluka, Giovani dos Santos, Jermaine Jenas, Sebastien Bassong and Steven Pienaar to name just seven.
Modric excelled at Euro 2012 even though Croatia failed to make it out of the group stages. The pint sized playmaker was especially excellent against Spain when for long periods he ruled the midfield despite the presence of luminaries like Xavi and Andres Iniesta.
Man United may well counter Real Madrid’s offer and a bidding war could ensue. Even so, Levy must make sure he doesn’t sell any of his top talents or risk once again being labeled a ‘selling club’.
