Peru star could join Reds.
The agent of Peruvian winger Juan Manuel Vargas has admitted that Liverpool are ‘an option’ for his client should he leave Fiorentina this summer.
Vargas signed for the Italians for £10 million in 2008, reportedly choosing the Florence club over Spanish giants Real Madrid. He initially struggled at left-back but, after a change of position, has developed into one of the most exciting attacking midfielders in Italy.
The 28-year-old is unsettled at Fiorentina after the club finished a disappointing 13th last season and his refusal to sign a new contract has led to speculation that he may seek a move to greener pastures this summer.
His agent, Jorge Cyterszpiler admitted that a move was possible, with Liverpool a consideration but wealthy Spaniards Malaga also in the frame.
“There is the possibility that he (Vargas) will leave Fiorentina,” Cyterszpiler, told tuttomercatoweb.com. “However, at this time it’s just a rumour and there is nothing official.
“He didn’t have the best of seasons and he needs to make up for it next season. Liverpool is an option, but there is also Malaga, which has the attraction of playing in next season’s Champions League.”
When asked if Vargas has a specific preference for any of the big European leagues, Cyterszpiler said that the Peruvian would not mind playing either in England, Spain or Italy.
