Hammers eye veteran.
Newly promoted West Ham United are interested in signing Italian legend Alessandro Del Piero.
The 37-year-old is a free agent after a nineteen year spell with Serie A giants Juventus, during which he established himself as one of the Old Lady’s greatest ever players.
Del Piero has insisted he is not ready to retire and has been linked with moves to the Mexican league and MLS. But West Ham have now emerged as surprise candidates for his signature after boss Sam Allardyce contacted the Italian’s agent.
Allardyce has a history of bringing out the best in ageing, foreign stars and successfully signed Youri Djorkaeff and Jay Jay Ockocha, amongst others, when in charge of Bolton.
The former Newcastle boss believes Del Piero’s technique, set pieces and eye for goal could be game-changing assets as his side prepares for life in the Premier League after one season away.
Del Piero has often spoke of his admiration for the English game and would welcome concrete interest from the east Londoners.
