Arsenal Turn to Newcastle United Enforcer Chieck Tiote, After M’Vila Snub

Gunners eye Toon star.

Arsenal have turned their attentions to Newcastle enforcer Chieck Tiote after deciding against a move for Rennes midfielder Yann M’Vila.

M’Vila had looked set to complete a £7.5 million move to the Emirates after Euro 2012 but was involved in a dressing room bust-up before France’s quarter-final defeat to Spain.

The incident was enough to convince Gunners boss Arsene Wenger to pull the plug on the deal and the Frenchman is now preparing a £13 million bid for Newcastle star Tiote.

Tiote, 26, has been with Toon since summer 2010 and his combative displays have earned him rave reviews. In 50 league appearances, he has one goal, a dramatic last-minute equaliser against Wenger’s side.

Newcastle are unwilling to part with the combative midfielder and are ready to forcefully rebuff any approaches, as they look to strengthen after an impressive season that saw them push Arsenal and Tottenham all the way for a spot in the top four of the Premier League.

Arsenal fans will be more than aware of Tiote’s battling qualities as well as his ability to score from long range, as evidenced by the Ivory Coast international’s goal during that epic 4-4 draw at St James’ Park in February 2011.
