Prior to Euro 2012 getting underway, there is no doubt than many expected Spain to make the final. Italy on the other hand are the surprise inclusion as these two teams go head to head tonight.

Reigning Champions Spain are the experts at progressing in major tournaments these days of course and despite being below par at times this summer, nobody is surprised to see them perform under pressure to make the final.

As mentioned though, Italy have defied all the odds to make it this far. Everyone knew they had talented players, but after losing three games in the build-up, not many thought they could succeed across the whole tournament.

The negative press that surrounded Italian football appears to have united them though, much like it did when they won the 2006 World Cup.

With their ‘hit or miss’ players – including Mario Balotelli – performing well and the experienced members of their squad leading by example, they have produced a winning formula.

Whether it is enough to beat Spain on Sunday though remains to be seen. Italy are the outsiders at 3/1 to be crowned Champions of Europe.

Spain will not be worried by the favourites tag though. They know that they have the players to win this weekend and will always back themselves, against any opposition in the world. They can be backed at 11/10 to win the game.

Looking at the other betting markets for this one, the idea of it being a tight game without too many goals appears to be a popular one. For it to be 0-0 after 90 minutes, you can get odds of 5/1.

Another fascinating market to look at is the Euro 2012 top goalscorer one. Of the contenders, Balotelli, Cesc Fabregas, Fernando Torres and Xabi Alonso are all involved on Sunday.

This adds a fascinating sub-plot to what should be an entertaining, tense and competitive Euro 2012 final. Bring on 7.45pm on Sunday evening.
